MigrationReadiness HealthCheck for Db2 z/OS

The MigrationReadiness HealthCheck Freeware analyzes Db2 subsystems or Db2 datasharing groups.

It presents a set of KPIs across all objects and highlights those that are either no longer supported (deprecated) or incomplete. It is important to note the list of those that will block a migration to Vnext. These objects were discussed by Haakon Roberts (IBM) at IDUG EMEA 2024, and John Lyle (IBM) emphasized on May 14, 2025, that IBM is currently converting existing catalog and directory objects to UTS.

The most important advantages:

  • The freeware allows the installation to obtain a quantitative and qualitative overview of migration blockers.
  • Displays all deprecated ZPARMs and VTAM/SNA usage.
  • It enables the creation of a roadmap for the timely resolution of potential problems.
  • It enables the planning of additional personnel and monetary resources.

The paid add-on option automatically generates all DROPs, ALTERs, REORGs, RUNSTATS, and REBINDs.

The additional Add On can be purchased to generate the required commands, utilities, or ALTER statements, with exactly the right options to migrate “deprecated objects”.

This not only assures reliable operation of Db2 systems and applications, but also the various advantages of modern and enhanced Db2 objects and functions in a simple and comfortable way.

The “Migration HealthCheckFreeware” from 2021 examined running V12 systems and presented the types that will no longer be supported in the future in a Db2 system in a simple report. There were no “showstoppers” during the migration to V13. This means that even if the recommendations were not followed, it was still possible to migrate Db2 systems to version 13 quite easily.

With Db2 VNEXT, this seems to be different. Here, overlooked recommendations can lead to ‘Show-Stopper’ issues, appearing as migration blockers. SOFTWARE ENGINEERING has once again provided a Goodie in the proven format (Easy2Install, Easy2Run, Easy2Read, all done in 10 minutes), the ‘MigrationReadiness HealthCheck,’ which highlights existing problematic elements to address them early before the migration.
